Wisconsin DOT seeks public input on updated rail plan

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is soliciting public comments on an updated list of projects featured in the Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030.
The draft of the updated list includes projects and studies for long-distance and commuter passenger rail, freight rail and grade crossings, WisDOT officials said in a press release.
The revised tables bring up to date:
• known project and studies currently state or federally funded;
• projects anticipated to request state or federal funding in the next four years; and
• planned studies using state or federal funds.
Comments are due Feb. 26.
The draft includes no major or substantial changes to WisDOT policies. As a result, no system plan environmental evaluation is necessary with the plan update process, department officials said.
Approved in 2014, the state's Rail Plan 2030 identifies rail infrastructure issues that reflect the views of Wisconsin citizens, businesses and government officials. The plan includes a statewide vision for freight, intercity passenger and commuter rail, as well as an inventory of the rail system, service and facilities in the state.
