WMATA set to handle record crowds on Inauguration Day
advertisement
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is gearing up for Inauguration Day, when the agency will operate rush-hour service for 17 consecutive hours.
In anticipation of "extremely crowded conditions" on Jan. 20, WMATA will step up eight-car train operations on the Metrorail system. This week, the agency will test additional eight-car trains on the Blue, Orange and Red lines to ensure the power system, track and rail cars are capable of handling the additional service. Last month, WMATA tested additional eight-car trains on the Green and Yellow lines.
