Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) recently completed the Final Environmental Impact Report for a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) extension to Milpitas, San Jose and Santa Clara, Calif.
The 16.3-mile Silicon Valley Rapid Transit corridor would extend south from the future BART Warm Springs Station in Fremont to Norman Y. Mineta International Airport in Santa Clara.
The $4.8 billion project includes seven stations plus one future station and a vehicle storage yard in San Jose/Santa Clara. VTA is designing and constructing the extension; BART will operate and maintain the line.
Meanwhile, VTA awarded a contract to joint venture PGH Wong Engineering Inc. and Parsons Brinckerhoff to design the extension. Wong/PB will perform preliminary design of the bulk power supply, traction power including the third rail, electrical power supply, trackwork, communications, radio, train control and tunnel ventilation.
