Rail industry suppliers and service providers have more recent developments to share:
• Stanec acquired Rochester Signal Inc., which specializes in signaling design and engineering services for freight-, commuter- and light-rail systems. Stanec's transit division provides various design, construction and maintenance services for U.S. and Canadian mass transit systems.
• RMI announced rail and barge logistics management firm WT&L Corp. deployed its Web-based ShipperConnect™ Freight Management Services to provide real-time shipment visibility to WT&L customers. ShipperConnect can trace rail cars in permanently assigned fleets or rail shipments loaded in free-running equipment. Inbound and outbound rail shipments are monitored via car movement information from Class Is and more than 300 regionals and short lines.
• Thales Group won a $17.8 million contract to supply and install a signaling system for the Finnish rail administration, or RHK, which manages the country's rail network. Thales will install the system on 61 miles of track between Lahti and Luumaki in southern Finland.
• Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. launched a redesigned Web site at www.unitracrail.com. The company revamped the site to improve navigation, enabling current and potential customers to find information more quickly, Unitrac Railroad Materials said.
