• At the end of 2008, Mac Purdy retired as president of RMI, which provides rail information services to the transportation industry. On Jan. 6, Progressive Railroading.com incorrectly reported that Purdy would retire at 2009’s end. Shortly after joining RMI in August 1989, Purdy became president, a post he held for nearly 20 years.
• An Alstom Transport/Bombardier Transportation consortium obtained a $108.5 million supplemental order from SNCF and Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois in France for 14 new-generation double-decker TER trains. The order is an option included in a contract signed in 2000. The consortium expects to begin delivering trains in June 2010. The trainsets can accommodate up to 339 passengers and travel at speeds up to 99 mph.
• Pacer International Inc. has appointed James Commiskey vice president of business development–automotive for the Pacer Stacktrain unit. He will report to Pacer Stacktrain President Adriene Bailey. Commiskey most recently was senior VP of Avnet Logistics, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and services development. He previously held various senior positions in the logistics industry, including VP of business development for UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Menlo Worldwide, Vector SCM and Emery Worldwide.
• Infor Public Sector obtained a contract from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to provide the Infor EAM Enterprise Edition software to help the agency manage maintenance at more than 200 facilities, including train stations and bus garages. The CTA also will use the software to increase labor efficiency, reduce overtime and boost warranty claim collections.
• Professional Transportation Inc. (PTI) has promoted Ryan Kassenbrock from financial analyst to manager of operations support. He joined PTI in 1999 as a staff accountant. Founded in 1980, PTI provides ground transportation service for railroad employees.
