The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced the availability of $626.7 million in grant funding to support the country's transportation infrastructure, with a priority for large-scale projects costing over $150 million.
Freight-rail projects, including upgrades to intermodal and transloading facilities, grade crossings and ports, are eligible for funding.
The funding comes from the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway (INFRA) Projects program, which designates funding for upgrades to highways, bridges, ports and other transportation infrastructure, USDOT officials said in a press release.
This year's program utilizes funds from fiscal-years 2023 and 2024 as well as 2026. This year's grant funding is split into two tracks; the first track utilizes FY23 and FY24 funding to support surface transportation projects, while the second track is a portion of FY26 funding dedicated for commercial motor vehicle parking projects. Applications for track one funding must be submitted by July 1. Applications for track two must be submitted by July 15.
More information is available in the notice of funding opportunity.
