advertisement
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) continues to reconstruct the Market Street elevated line, the agency expects to maintain an aggressive construction schedule later this spring and in summer that will affect "El" service in West Philadelphia.
For four full weekends in June, and nine-day periods in July and August, the authority will close the line between 40th and Market streets, and 69th Street terminal. SEPTA plans to reconstruct the 56th and 60th street stations, replace 1,500 feet of guideway, including track and the third-rail electrical power system, and install 26 new single and multiple column bents.
SEPTA began construction on the $567 million project in 2000. Scheduled to be complete in 2008, the project includes reconstructing five stations in West Philadelphia and Millbourne Station in Delaware County, and replacing 11,000 feet of guideway between Millbourne Station and 46th Street with a new single-column bent structure.
