Nevada's RTC to begin final design on Las Vegas monorail extension
advertisement
Last week, the U.S. Department of Transportation gave Las Vegas Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) the green light to begin final design work on Phase II of the Las Vegas monorail system.
Once final design is complete, construction will begin on the 2.3-mile line running between Las Vegas’ "strip" and downtown. The project’s second phase includes extending the existing four-mile monorail system to the northern part of the strip and the old Las Vegas central business district.
During final design, RTC officials will prepare construction plans, detailed specifications, cost estimates and bid documents. The project was recommended to receive federal funding in the Federal Transit Administration’s last annual New Starts report.
