Norfolk Southern Railway Sept. 24 selected Bulkmatic Transport Co. to operate the Class I's Buffalo, N.Y., Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer (TBT) facility.
Bulkmatic, which offers packaging, warehousing and purity controls services, operates 13 other TBT facilities for NS.
The Buffalo facility includes 87 car spots with three tracks for food products, and two for chemicals and forest products; security; full fencing; lighting; 24-hour access; a truck scale; two-bay truck wash and a trailer dryer.
"The equipment and services provided [by Bulkmatic] will enable shippers to increase distribution in the Buffalo area, as well as the Northeast and Canada, and improve terminal processes and enhance inventory control systems," said Mike Webb, manager of NS' MODALGISTICS distribution services group, in a prepared statement.
NS currently serves 23 TBT and Flexi-Flo facilities in 14 states.
