NS, coil-processing provider open specialized steel transload center in Atlanta

On Dec. 2, Norfolk Southern Railway and Collier Metals L.L.C. opened a steel transload center in Atlanta.
The 88,000-square-foot SteelNet® facility, which is designed to handle high-value steel and metals products, and combine rail and just-in-time truck delivery, will be operated by coil-processing and distribution services provider Collier Metals.
The facility also offers warehousing and processing services for coils up to 72 inches wide, and features two 250-ton cranes, 15 car spots, indoor loading and unloading, and climate-controlled storage with dew-point monitoring.
Adjacent to NS' Atlanta yard, SteelNet will provide shippers easier access to Interstates 75, 85 and 20.
"The facility offers customers premium service options by combining a rail-served Class I coil processing facility with complete inventory visibility through MODALGISTICS(sm) supply-chain management systems," said David Lawson, president of NS subsidiary MODALGISTICS, in a prepared statement.
