The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently unveiled a newly upgraded Charles/MGH Station.
The project, which began in June 2003, called for adding two elevators, two escalators, wider staircases, electronic message boards, new public address speakers and emergency call boxes, and eight surveillance cameras. The now ADA-accessible station also features a new street-level entrance.
The Federal Transit Administration provided $36 million for the $48.6 million project; Massachusetts General Hospital provided more than $2.5 million for the station upgrades.
