The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) board recently authorized the agency to proceed with initial design work on five light-rail corridors outlined in the METRO Solutions Phase 2 plan.
The board assigned five teams to conduct design development, and conceptual and preliminary engineering on the North, Southeast, Harrisburg, Uptown and University corridors. Preliminary engineering will take six to nine months to complete.
In addition, the board awarded a $3 million contract to engineering firm Carter & Burgess Inc. to conduct environmental studies for the University Line, which would run from the University of Houston’s main campus to the Galleria area.
