Geist will continue to head the House transportation committee in Pennsylvania

Rep. Rick Geist has been reappointed as Republican chairman of the Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee.

A committee member since 1979, Geist is beginning his 16th-straight two-year term in the House.

He plans to re-introduce legislation that would enable Pennsylvania to explore the use of public-private partnerships (PPPs) to help fund transportation projects. The state’s Transportation Funding and Reform Commission recently determined Pennsylvania needs $1.7 billion annually to meet existing and immediate transportation needs.

"We have to get serious about engaging the private sector to work with government on rebuilding our infrastructure, at both the state and national level," said Geist in a prepared statement. "Twenty-five other states already have enacted some form of PPP legislation as a tool in the toolbox for funding the maintenance and expansion of their transportation systems.”

Geist also will work to ensure that Pennsylvania is well-positioned to receive any federal economic stimulus funds targeted for infrastructure, he said.
