Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority recently awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff to provide planning, project management and engineering design services for a downtown streetcar line.

The project includes building a two-mile vintage streetcar line connecting Corpus Christi’s uptown and downtown areas. The line would serve the Texas city’s convention center, arena and baseball stadium.

The project is expected to encourage transit-oriented development near streetcar stations, according to a prepared statement.

Parsons Brinckerhoff will be responsible for managing the project, developing a purpose and need statement, refining alternatives identified in the feasibility study, developing engineering plans and performing environmental analyses. The firm also will help implement a public participation program and prepare a financial plan.
