Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Yesterday, the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) presented the 2004 Connie Awards to Charles "Chuck" Raymond of Horizon Lines L.L.C. and Nicola Arena of Mediterranean Shipping Co. The awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated leadership in furthering containerization and intermodalism.
Raymond has served as Horizon Lines' president and chief executive officer since 1999. He previously served in a number of management and executive positions at Sea-Land Service Inc., and in other international shipping capacities since graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
"Containerization, intermodalism and their many enabling technologies, more than any other factors, have opened the world to trade and to economic growth," said Raymond in a prepared statement. "Today, that trade explosion is far beyond levels anyone could have imagined 50 years ago."
A graduate of Italy's maritime academy, Arena serves as Mediterranean Shipping's American division president and CEO. He previously served as vice president.
CII is a trade association serving all modes involved in international containerization and intermodalism.
