The Chicago Transit Authority's (CTA) board has extended a pilot program, originally approved in February, to operate weekend service on the Yellow Line.
In July, ridership averaged 1,300 boardings on Saturdays and 1,000 boardings on Sundays. To date, ridership on the Yellow Line is up 14.7 percent, CTA said.
The agency currently operates weekend trains on the line at 15-minute intervals from 6:10 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. The additional service is being funded through a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program grant.
