Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) board recently agreed to improve service on the city’s west side and in western suburbs based on results from a West Side Corridor Study.
By July, the authority plans to create a new route and improve service on an existing corridor to offer more frequent, faster travel times and better connections.
CTA will reroute a 54th/Cermak Blue Line train to travel to and from the Chicago Loop via the elevated Paulina Connector. During rush hour, Loop-bound passengers could use the current 54th/Cermak train via the Dearborn subway or use the elevated service.
The authority also plans to increase frequency on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line, especially during weekday off-peak hours and on weekends.
As part of the study, CTA reviewed west side employment patterns, residential corridors and development trends; analyzed travel patterns on the rail system; conducted customer surveys; and held community workshops.
