Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Wednesday, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will reopen the Kedzie and Rockwell stations, which have been closed since Feb. 20 to give construction crews unlimited access to rehabilitate the facilities.
The facilities now feature glass station houses, new platforms, brighter lighting, ramps, tactile edging and handicapped-accessible gates. During the next few weeks, crews will put the finishing touches on the stations, including permanent signs, a compass rose and new fencing.
The Kedzzie and Rockwell stations are two of 18 that are being rehabilitated as part of the $530 million Brown Line capacity expansion project, which also includes upgrading or replacing traction power, and signal and communication equipment.
Operating between downtown and Chicago’s northwest side, the century-old Brown Line is CTA’s third busiest, serving more than 66,000 customer each weekday.
