The Association of American Railroads recently announced CSX Transportation's Keith Brinker is the recipient of the 2007 North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award.

CSXT's manager of environmental remediation, Brinker was one of five rail employees nominated for the award, which recognizes a worker's environmental efforts.

A 28-year railroading veteran, Brinker helped establish CSXT's first environmental operations department, developed numerous standard operating procedures for using chemicals and cleaners, and organized the railroad's internal environmental crimes unit to ensure compliance with government and company regulations.

Brinker also developed a process that helped reduce CSXT's consumption of chemicals and cleaners by 75 percent. The railroad now uses products with lower concentrations of potentially harmful chemicals.
