CSXT plans LRC plunge with 100-unit Cattron-Theimeg order

While most U.S. Class Is dabble in or ponder implementing locomotive remote-control (LRC) systems, CSX Transportation soon will join the Canadian Class Is in more widespread LRC use.
CSXT recently placed an order with Cattron-Theimeg Inc. for 100 LRCs. Order terms weren't disclosed.
"The most significant benefit to adopting this new technology is safety," said CSXT Executive Vice President-Transportation Alan Crown in a prepared statement. "One Canadian railroad experienced more than a 50 percent improvement in train accidents after adopting LRC technology — we're eager to begin realizing these benefits."
Cattron-Theimeg officials believe CSXT's order provides the company a leg up in the U.S. railroad LRC marketplace. Cattron-Theimeg has installed about 100,000 LRC systems globally for railroads and various other industries, including shipyards, mines, aerospace, military operations and amusement parks.
