BTS: Railed transborder freight value rose in December

The value of transborder freight moved by rail between the United States, Canada and Mexico increased 1.6% to $14.1 billion worth of goods in December 2020 compared with November 2020's level, according to U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) data.
Year over year (YOY), freight moved by rail in December decreased 2% in value, according to a BTS press release.
The value of freight moved by all modes of transportation between the three nations in December totaled $96.8 billion worth of goods, up 0.9% month over month (MOM) and up 0.4% YOY.
Rail was the second-most-used mode in December as measured by value. Freight moved by rail made up 14.6% of all transborder freight during the month.
In December, $7.4 billion worth of freight was moved by rail between the United States and Canada, up 1.9% MOM, but down 7.4% YOY; and $6.8 billion worth of freight was moved between the United States and Mexico, up 1.3% MOM and up 4.7% YOY.
