BNSF's Zamora honored as one of nation's most influential Hispanics

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Vice President of Human Resources and Medical Gloria Zamora recently was named one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States by Hispanic Business magazine.

The magazine's annual top-100 list recognizes Hispanics who "set precedents for progress, lead economic and business issues, serve in positions of influence and refute the notion of ethnic stereotypes in 21st-Century U.S. society," according to a prepared statement.

Zamora was chosen for selecting, retaining and developing talent, and handling such issues as compensation, diversity, employee relations and health care for one of North America's largest railroads.

She also introduced BNSF's "Leadership Model" to define leadership competencies and behaviors; a performance-management process; talent enhancement; and employee brand "Team BNSF" under which various teams try to find ways to better meet customer expectations.

Other top-100 list members include Felipe Alou, manager of the San Francisco Giants; Susie Castillo, Miss USA; Fabio Freyre, publisher of Sports Illustrated; Rosendo Parra, senior vice president of Dell Americas, Dell Computer; and Ricardo Sanchez, U.S. Army lieutenant general, coalition ground commander in Iraq.
