BNSF sets PRB coal volume record in August

Last month, BNSF Railway Co. loaded a record 24 million tons of coal in the Powder River Basin (PRB), breaking the previous monthly record of 23.9 million tons set in March.
Daily PRB loadings averaged 52.7 trains in August, up 4.8 percent compared with August 2007's average.
Through 2008's first eight months, BNSF loaded 179.9 million tons of coal in the PRB, representing a 2.5 percent increase from the total loaded during the same 2007 period. Daily PRB loadings through eight months averaged 50.5 trains, a more than 2 percent rise vs. a 49.3-train average during the same 2007 period.
