BNSF boots up Web-based interline price application
advertisement
Today, BNSF Railway Co. announced it launched an online application designed to provide carload shippers an instantaneous interline price.
Accessible at www.bnsf.com under a “prices” heading, the application calculates prices for most general merchandise carload commodities moving from BNSF origins to destinations served by CSX Transportation and some of its affiliated short lines, and Canadian National Railway Co.
“Previously, to get an interline price, carload customers had to call the originating railroad, the originating railroad would have to call the destination railroad and then get back to the customer,” said Denis Smith, BNSF vice president of industrial products marketing, in a prepared statement.
BNSF is offering the application as part of the joint Class I "A+B Pricing" initiative. During the past two years, CSXT and CN jointly developed A+B Pricing to provide shippers online rate quotes in real time and eliminate delays in responding to interline price inquiries.
In January, CSXT began providing interline prices for many general merchandise carload moves involving CN and BNSF on its Web site, www.csx.com, and secure transaction site, ShipCSX.com.
