Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Caltrain’s board recently approved a fiscal-year 2007 fare and parking fee increase to help offset rising operating costs. Fuel expenses alone are projected to rise at least 20 percent in FY2007 — which began July 1 — compared with FY2006.
On Oct. 1, Caltrain will raise daily parking rates from $1.50 to $2 and increase monthly parking passes from $15 to $20. And on April 27, 2007, the agency will increase ticket prices by 25 cents per zone traveled.
In FY2006, Caltrain implemented two fare increases: a 17.5 percent hike in July 2005 and a 5.6 percent increase in January 2006.
