Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Amtrak recently selected SITA Information Networking Computing to replace and enhance its online booking program using the iTravelDirect system.
Launched in 1996, the Internet reservation system handles about 25 percent of the national passenger railroad’s reservations — about 2.5 million annually.
SITA will add new functionality and capacity to Amtrak’s booking engine, including enhanced booking for sleeping accommodations, up-front pricing views and integration of Amtrak’s content-management system. As site usage increases, Amtrak might use other SITA components, such as Super PNR, which is designed to integrate other travel services (including car and hotel reservations) into a single record.
