French national railway Société Nationale des Chamins de Fer (SNCF) recently awarded two contracts totaling $262 million to ALSTOM Transport.

Under a $215.4 million contract, ALSTOM will provide 60 PRIMA electric locomotives. Similar to 210 other locomotives the supplier is providing SNCF, the electric units will be adapted for passenger service requirements in lle de France.

Scheduled for delivery in 2006, the locomotives will be assembled at ALSTOM’s Belfort, France, facility; components will be provided by the supplier’s Tarbes, Villeurbanne, Le Cruesot and Ornans facilities.

Also, an ALSTOM/Cannes La Bocca Industries consortium was awarded a $60.8 million contract to renovate SNCF regional trains. ALSTOM’s $60.8 million portion of the contract includes installing air conditioning on the trains, and designing new interiors and passenger amenities.

ALSTOM also will supply equipment to enable SNCF to renovate 51 trains in its workshops.

Train and equipment delivery is scheduled to be complete by March 2008.
