Sound Transit receives Central Link funding

Updated 10/27/03
Federal Transit Administration recently approved a $500 million full funding grant agreement for Sound Transit’s Central Link light rail system.

The funding was contingent on Sound Transit’s board approving a resolution to meet final federal conditions before building Central Link light rail’s initial segment.

On Oct. 23, the board agreed to use tax revenues from five subareas only for the benefit of that subarea. Local revenues for Central Link are being taken only from North King County and South King Country subareas.

Sound Transit also agreed to neither seek nor accept more than the current $500 million in federal grants from the Federal Transit Administration to built the initial segment.
