The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) is accepting nominations for the 5th annual Safety Person of the Year Award and 10th annual Marketing Awards.

The safety person award recognizes a railroad employee who is "extremely safety minded in word, thought and action, and is able to demonstrate their commitment to safety," ASLRRA officials said in a prepared statement.

Presented to the top three small-road marketing initiatives, the marketing awards recognize a proven marketing program/concept, an innovative customer relationship, new ways to understand a specific market or customer, a creative Internet-based promotion or inventive use of e-commerce.

"Short line and regional railroads have some of the most innovative and successful marketing campaigns in today's industry [and] we need to demonstrate to our peers, and to present and potential customers how
we get the job done," ASLRRA officials said.

All entries are due March 11. ASLRRA plans to present the awards at its annual meeting and exhibition be held April 3-5 in Anaheim, Calif. Safety person and marketing award inquiries should be emailed to Matt Reilly at mreilly@aslrra.org and Jenny McKinney at jmckinney@aslrra.org, respectively.
