On March 11, former Whiting Corp. President and long-time board member Raymond Gibson died. He was 66.

After joining Whiting Corp. — which manufactures rail-car maintenance equipment and overhead traveling cranes — in 1964, Gibson held stints as crane product group manager and executive vice president before being named president in 1985.

A year earlier, he played a key role in a management buy-out of the company, which “positioned the company for the continued success it enjoys today,” Whiting officials said in a prepared statement. Gibson remained president until 1994, then served as a director until his death.

Active in the crane industry, he was president of the Crane Manufacturers Association of America and helped promote high engineering standards.

“Ray was not only an industry leader, but his strong sense of integrity and doing the right thing made him a trusted advisor to many,” said current Whiting President Jeffrey Kahn.

Gibson is survived by his wife, Sharon, a son and daughter, and four grandchildren.
