BTS: Railed transborder freight value fell in November

The value of transborder freight moved by rail between the United States, Canada and Mexico decreased 3.7% to $13.9 billion worth of goods in November 2020 compared with October 2020's level, the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week.

Year over year (YOY), freight moved by rail in November dipped 0.8% in value, according to a BTS press release.

The value of freight moved by all modes of transportation between the three nations in November totaled $95.9 billion worth of goods, down 6.1% month over month (MOM) and 3.2% YOY.

Rail was the second-most used mode in November as measured by value. Freight moved by rail made up 14.5% of all transborder freight.

In November, $7.2 billion worth of freight was moved by rail between the United States and Canada, down 5% MOM but up 0.9% YOY; and $6.7 billion worth of freight was moved by rail between the United States and Mexico, down 2.3% MOM and 2.5% YOY.
