Chemical shipper now a three-time NS safety award winner

Norfolk Southern Railway recently presented The BOC Group a Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award for 2003 — the third time the chemical shipper has won the award in eight years.

"[The award] demonstrates our focus on safety at our plants and depots, and also reflects the effort our support staff delivers through services such as third-party maintenance controls, new rail-car design and procurement oversight that factor safety into the total cost of ownership," said Mike Gentile, BOC Process Gas Solutions vice president of distribution and logistics, in a prepared statement. "Through this team effort, we were able to achieve 'zero incidents' over the past year."

BOC Process Gas Solutions ships carbon dioxide by rail in Georgia, North Carolina, Delaware and Ohio.

NS honored 35 shippers with the awards, which recognize customers' safe chemical handling during rail-car loading and unloading.
