Watco Cos. secures car-tracing feature for Web site

advertisement

Similar to Class Is, some regionals and several other short-line holding companies, Watco Cos. Inc. March 4 launched a rail-car tracing feature on its Web site, www.watcocompanies.com.
The feature, which uses Railcar Management Inc.'s RailConnect™ software, enables users to determine when cars are interchanged from origin to connections with any of Watco's eight short lines, the date and time shipments are placed at a facility, and a car's movement history.
The secure application requires customers to complete a form to obtain a username and password, ensuring that only active rail shippers have access to car-tracing records, said Alan Elliott, Watco vice president of customer support and billing services, in a prepared statement.
