RAILINC, Elemica target supply-chain management software for chemical shippers

Elemica and RAILINC Corp. Nov. 12 formed an alliance aimed at offering rail supply-chain management software to North American chemical shippers.

RAILINC and Elemica — a neutral Web-based information network founded by 22 leading chemical companies — plan during the fourth quarter to begin marketing software designed to provide chemical producers more-comprehensive, accurate and timely car and fleet tracking data.

Rapidly deployed subsequent software releases would offer chemical companies transportation arrangement capabilities, operational support, transit history analysis and proactive alerts.

Officials of Elemica and RAILINC — an information technology services provider to North American railroads and developer of Steelroads.com — believe the software can help chemical companies reduce supply-chain costs, improve delivery performance, enhance asset utilization, and plan, forecast and replenish inventory.

"Elemica will function as a preferred RAILINC sales channel to the North American chemical industry," said Paul Neville, RAILINC vice president, business services, in a prepared statement.
