Business group honors UP's efforts to promote healthy lifestyles

The National Business Group on Health recently presented Union Pacific Railroad a platinum Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award. The non-profit company recognized the railroad for its commitment to combating obesity and promoting a healthy lifestyle to employees.

UP recently integrated a HealthTrack program with safety programs, operating work units and health-care benefits

“Creating a culture of health and wellness for employees helps Union Pacific fulfill its corporate vision — a railroad where … public and employee safety is our top priority," said Marcy Zauha, UP director of health and safety, in a prepared statement.

Created by the Institute on the Costs and Health Effects of Obesity, the awards are divided into three categories: platinum, for companies that establish programs with measurable outcomes; gold, for firms that create cultural and environmental changes that support employees’ long-term behavior changes; and silver, for companies that launch programs promoting a healthy lifestyle. The business group presented awards to 22 companies.
