Long Island Rail Road president to join RailWorks as CFO

On Jan. 31, RailWorks Corp. tapped another railroad veteran to fill a key post. The supplier named former Long Island Rail Road President Ken Bauer chief financial officer.

Bauer, who'll be responsible for budgeting, treasury and financial operations, information systems and internal auditing, will report to President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Kimsey.

During his three-year tenure as LIRR president, Bauer helped the commuter railroad improve operational performance, safety and customer satisfaction. He spent more than 30 years with LIRR parent Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York before resigning earlier this month.

Bauer will provide RailWorks "leadership and expertise during a critical time in the company's history," including a recent emergence from Chapter 11 reorganization, said RailWorks Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ab Rees, who joined the supplier in July 2002 after a more than 30-year freight-railroad career with Kansas City Southern, Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and Missouri Pacific Railroad.
