CSX launches new Web site to consolidate company-wide applications

On Nov. 13, CSX Corp. introduced its newly redesigned web site, which consolidates all the companies' sites (including CSX Transportation) and online applications (such as ShipCSX and e-business tools).

The new CSX.com is designed to integrate shipping information and ShipCSX functions to enable customers to more quickly find service and commodity data when conducting transactions.

CSX also renamed ShipCSX navigational menus to match the shipping process and adopt emerging transportation-industry standards, according to a prepared statement.

The new menus are "Plan," enabling customers to organize logistics before ordering service; "Ship," to complete and submit shipping instructions; "Trace," to track orders and shipments; and "Pay," to electronically view and pay freight bills.

The site also contains information and applications for all CSX employees, and the public (such as investor and shareholder relations functions), and provides safety and environmental data, and current news releases.

Earlier this year, CSX performed usability research studies, assessed transportation industry best practices and standards, and tested a prototype model with customers before launching the new site.
