Pacer Stacktrain starts up two U.S.-to-Mexico intermodal services

Pacer Stacktrain recently launched two U.S.-to-Mexico intermodal services designed to move transborder freight quickly, securely and efficiently.

A long-haul service between Chicago and Mexico, PacerMex NonStop offers general-consumer and industrial-merchandise shippers customs clearance at final destination rather than at the border. Stopping in San Luis
Potosi, Queretero, and Mexico City, PacerMex NonStop also is available as a door-to-door service through intermodal marketing companies.

Pacer plans to provide 48-foot and 53-foot containers and chassis. TFM S.A. de C.V. will provide liability coverage for shipments moving in Mexico.

Offering service between Laredo, Texas, and Mexico City, PacerMex Gateway targets general merchandise originating in or destined for the United States. Pacer plans to use a truck transfer to cross the border.

PacerMex Gateway is designed to handle freight located at border-region warehouses and distribution centers, and destined for final distribution in Mexican markets.

"By using double-stack technology, both services provide excellent cargo security, eliminating the need for long-haul security escorts that have become increasingly common with highway transport," said Pacer President Tom Shurstad in a prepared statement, adding that the services also provide faster transit times and a smoother ride.
