CPR joins U.S. Customs' anti-terrorism program

Canadian Pacific Railway recently became the fourth Class I to join U.S. Customs Service's Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.

C-TPAT encourages businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate security guidelines to supply-chain business partners.

The program requires participants to analyze all areas of security, such as documents, information systems, employee and contractor identification, equipment and facilities.

CPR plans to work with customs officials to implement further security improvements, and encourage shippers and transportation partners to adopt C-TPAT standards.

Union Pacific Railroad, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and CSX Transportation previously joined C-TPAT, through which U.S. Customs Service is seeking voluntary involvement from importers, licensed brokers, airlines, ocean carriers, railroads, air-freight consolidators and port operators.
