CSXT honors Virginia county administrator for promoting 'Parks for Growth' program

CSX Transportation recently presented its 2003 Partnershipping Award to Michael Johnson, a Southampton County, Va., administrator who helped develop an industrial park through CSXT's "Parks for Growth" program.

The award recognizes an individual who helps locate rail-served industries on CSXT's lines.

"It is important that CSXT develop relationships with the communities it serves to foster economic opportunities that are mutually beneficial," said David Hemphill, CSXT assistant vice president of industrial and economic development, in a prepared statement.

Launched last year, Parks for Growth encourages the formation of joint public/private ventures to develop industrial parks near rail lines.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia Department of Rail, Virginia Port Authority, CSXT, and national and state real estate consultants recently developed a 400-acre industrial park in Southampton County near the railroad's Portsmouth line.
