In January, The Transportation Services Index (TSI) fell to 111.5, down 2.5 percent from December’s level, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). However, the index climbed 1.9 percent on a year-over-year basis.

January’s Freight TSI of 109.7 fell 3.6 percent from December’s level, ending a string of five consecutive month-over-month gains. On a year-over-year basis, the Freight TSI rose 1.6 percent.

January’s Passenger TSI of 116.4 inched up 0.1 percent from December’s level and climbed 2.6 percent from January 2011’s mark.
