Last week, the 16th Annual AAR Research Review attracted more than 400 attendees to the Pueblo Convention Center and Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) in Pueblo, Colo., to learn about the rail industry's latest research and development advances.

Held March 15-16, the event included presentations about work being performed under the Association of American Railroads’ (AAR) Strategic Research Initiatives program on wheel safety, track and structures safety, improved car components and automated car health monitoring.

“We provided our conference participants with the latest rail technology displays and exhibits, including automated car and track inspection technologies, state-of-the-art rail steels, crosstie and fastener systems, and special trackwork designs and materials," said Semih Kalay, TTCI’s vice president of technology, in a prepared statement.

During the annual track walk March 16 at the Facility for Accelerated Service Testing (FAST) facility, railroad representatives and vendors made their way around the high-tonnage loop to view experiments being conducted under the SRI program and various displays.

The track walk drew a “large and diverse group of railroad industry representatives” to TTCI to learn about ongoing research, said FAST Program Manager Joseph LoPresti.
