UPS recognizes Florida East Coast, NS as top rail carriers of 2006

United Parcel Service recently named Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. (FECR) and Norfolk Southern Corp. as winners of Rail Carriers of the Year Awards for 2006.

The award recognizes railroads’ on-time delivery performance for UPS, the roads’ largest domestic intermodal customer. The 351-mile FECR has provided UPS failure-free service for more than two years.

“Being chosen by UPS … is a powerful recognition of our ability to meet their service performance levels and our ability to adapt in critical situations to deliver high-quality service, under adverse conditions,” said David MacInnes, FECR’s assistant vice president of intermodal marketing, in a prepared statement. “By striving to continually improve our network performance for UPS, we have created an intermodal service that is competitive to over-the-road transit time and more reliable than trucking.”
