Canadian Pacific Railway is outsourcing portions of the information technology (IT) department’s responsibilities.

The railroad recently reached multi-year agreements with IBM and Infosys Technologies Ltd. to manage IT application development and support associated with overseeing and maintaining CPR’s operations.

The move will enable the IT department to focus more on leveraging technology to meet operational needs, CPR said.

“Through the ‘Bestshoring’ initiative, we will realize greater yield on our IT investment,” said CPR Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kathryn McQuade in a prepared statement. “Going forward, our IT group will … help us get the most out of our application environment and provide us with direction and insights.”
