IANA honors REZ-1 for developing online capacity matching tool

The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) has bestowed the 2009 IANA Intermodal Achievement Award to Web-based asset management and equipment reservation system developer REZ-1. The award recognizes the company for developing an online platform that has “significantly” improved the process for matching intermodal container capacity with available shipments, IANA said.

Last year, REZ-1 launched SpeedMatch, an online tool designed to maximize reload efficiency by matching available equipment capacity with shippers needing to fill loads. The company collaborated with numerous drayage companies, shippers and railroads to develop the tool, which enables drayage companies to post available intermodal containers and shippers to list their container needs.

The matching process helps reduce terminal congestion and dwell time, boost fuel economy, and better utilize drivers, power units and containers, IANA officials said in a prepared statement. REZ-1 research found that prior to the tool’s launch, rail-controlled intermodal equipment was reloaded at a 30 percent rate; now, the rate has increased to 56 percent, IANA said.
