Railinc to launch Umler/EMIS system in summer

Railinc is on pace to develop a new Umler system by mid-summer. The company recently announced plans to launch the Umler/EMIS system on July 25.

Umler system data is “deeply embedded” in rail industry operations, serving railroads, equipment owners, shippers and repair shops, Railinc said. The EMIS project currently is in the user acceptance testing phase.

“This project is a major re-engineering of the 40-year-old legacy system and represents a giant technological leap forward,” said Alan McDonald, director of the EMIS project, in a prepared statement. “The new Umler system processes transactions immediately, has higher quality data and gives users greater control over managing equipment information.”

Railinc recently launched a new Web site at www.railinc.com/umler to help users learn about the new system. An Umler team also is demonstrating the new system at town hall meetings and industry-related conventions throughout the year. Training for the new system will begin next month.
