Charlotte transit system to hike fares next week

On Oct. 6, the Charlotte Area Transit System will implement a system-wide fare increase to cover rising fuel costs, which have skyrocketed almost 30 percent since January.

Base light-rail and bus fares will increase from $1.30 to $1.50; weekly passes, from $13 to $15; and monthly passes, from $52 to $60.
