TriMet to add security cameras, police officers

The Tri-County Metropolitan District of Oregon (TriMet) continues to bump up security on its light-rail system.

The agency recently obtained a $1 million Transportation Security Administration grant to install security cameras on platforms at six light-rail stations.

In addition, TriMet plans to hire 15 more police officers, bringing the agency's total number of officers to 58 — double the force that was working for the Transit Police Division a year ago.

The agency also plans to hire additional field supervisors, doubling the number of staff members who can check fares, and issue warnings and tickets.
