• A Siemens Transportation Systems/Bombardier Transportation consortium has obtained a $277 million order from the Swiss Federal Railways for 121 low-floor intermediate double-deck coaches. The order includes an option for 40 additional coaches. The consortium will deliver the coaches between October 2010 and March 2016. Siemens will manufacture car bodies in Vienna, Austria, and Bombardier will complete final assembly in Zurich-Oerlikon, Switzerland.

• MHF Holdings Co. has launched MHF Trucking & Drayage in Jacksonville, Fla., where MHF and Magellan Transport Logistics opened an office in June. MHF appointed Michael Parrotta executive vice president and Faye Baker, general manager of MHF Trucking & Drayage. Parrotta most recently was GM of operations services for CSX Intermodal and Baker was manager of operation services for CSXI.

• Transportation planning, design and construction management firm SYSTRA Consulting Inc. has named James Fea vice president and western regional director; Ahmad Awan, structural department manager; Tom Ott, civil department manager; and Brandon Swartley, senior traction power engineer. Fea has 35 years of transportation and construction industry experience; Awan previously was senior structural engineer/manager for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Ott has 12 years of transportation engineering and project management experience; and Swartley most recently was a principal electrical engineer and acting manager of the electrical design department for PSEG Nuclear.

• Veolia Transport subsidiary NordWestBahn won a contract to manage S-Bahn, a planned regional rail express system that will link the states of Bremen and Lower Saxony in Germany. The contract — which covers the operation of four rail lines totaling 167 miles — is the first fully electrified German S-Bahn contract awarded to a private operator. S-Bahn will feature new modern, air-conditioned vehicles and a new scheduling system designed to simplify network operations and transfers.
