CTA implements new performance measures

In an effort to “develop meaningful performance metrics,” the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has revamped its performance management report. The authority now will track a set of “relevant and useful” service indicators, according to CTA.

The metrics will measure performance in six core areas:
• ridership — monthly, year-to-date and percentage change over the previous year for rail and bus;
• on-time performance — percentage of slow zones and number of rail delays of 10 minutes or more;
• efficiency – miles between reported rail and bus vehicle defects;
• safety — security-related incidents per 100,000 rail and bus miles;
• cleanliness — average days between completed rail and bus detail-cleans, and percentage of uptime for rail and bus washers; and
• courtesy — percentage of elevator and escalator up-time, and customer service hotline average wait times.

CTA will post monthly performance reports on its Web site,
